This unique Library and Information Science (Digital Library and Information Services) programme from University of Boras is for those who want to accept the challenges for the library and information science and who finds the area of education tangible and exciting.

Would you like to work at the leading edge of information and library practice? Would you be interested in helping people to make sense of the digital world that is becoming so important in their work and lives? Do you want to have all the treasures of human knowledge, acquired through the ages, at your fingertips?

The programme

Digital libraries are increasingly significant throughout the world in the provision of information not only to local audiences, but internationally. After graduating from the Library and Information Science (Digital Library and Information Services) programme from University of Boras, you will better understand the significance of digital libraries in their own context, and be able to manage the transition of services to the digital sphere, and develop new digital services to satisfy the needs of various user groups. The programme draws on the excellence of faculty members in Sweden’s leading school of library and information science. Note that the studies take place primarily in a distance mode. However, you need to participate in several meetings in Borås, Sweden, during your education.

After your studies

You can target various jobs in libraries developing digital services. There are also possibilities in other public and business organisations that implement modern information services, create centralised or distributed collections of documents, support e-learning or work in electronic publishing or digitization fields. With the expertise you gain of needs assessment and management of digital services, and your ability to communicate across the borders of technological, information and managerial professions a variety of career paths will be opened up to.

The Swedish School of Library an Information Science (SSLIS) is one of a kind in Sweden. Within Library and Information Science, our research, programmes and courses are the most extensive in the country. They are all developed in close interaction with the global society around us. The idea behind our work is that work practices and scientific approaches are two interwoven perspectives that enrich each other, just as research and education do.
