The Master of Science in Education in Advanced Instructional Studies provides a post-baccalaureate opportunity for licensed teachers to expand their content and pedagogy knowledge.  The program consists of 18 hours from the AIS Core and 18 hours from an area of specialization.


The Department of Advanced Instructional Studies and Educational Leadership is all about effective teaching and leadership. If you are a teacher who is interested in expanding your teaching abilities, growing in your content knowledge, seeking additional licensure, or pursuing new opportunities as an educational professional, we have graduate programs designed for you.  Through our department, you can obtain a Master of Science in Education (MSE) or an Educational Specialist degree (Ed S).  We can also help if you desire to complete an Additional Licensure Plan (ALP).  For individuals who do not possess a teaching license but wish to work with very young children who have special needs, we offer a Master of Science in Developmental Therapy.

Our faculty members, whether they teach AIS Core courses or specialty courses, possess rich and unique backgrounds as teachers, researchers, and administrators.  They are committed to helping classroom teachers enhance their teaching effectiveness.

The MSE in Advanced Instructional Studies provides you with the opportunity for to expand your teaching abilities and grow in your content knowledge with the goal of providing your students with the best education possible.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. Academic Requirements

  •   Provide evidence of a TOEFL score of 600 paper based or 100 Internet based. We will also accept a score of at least 6.5 on the IELTS. Henderson State University code number is 6272.
  • The financial statement should show that the student has at least $15,769 (USD) to cover tuition, fees, room and board, mandatory health insurance, and books and other course related expenses.
  • Provide a certified transcript(s) in English from an accredited translation agency, indicating satisfactory preparation to enter the graduate college.
  • Provide all vaccination records. 
  •  Provide a copy of the indentification page in your passport.
