About

Working as a counselor, whether it be in the community, the schools, the prisons, nursing homes or in other public and private facilities is a very rewarding experience.

Your studies with us will help you to develop the theoretical knowledge base and the practical skills necessary to enable you to assess and treat mental and emotional disorders such as depression, anxiety, addiction and substance abuse, suicidal impulses, stress, trauma, low self-esteem and grief.  As a counselor, you may also assist others with job and career concerns, educational decisions and relationship problems. Additionally,  you may be involved in community outreach, advocacy and mediation activities. Some of our counselors choose to specialize in delivering mental health services for the elderly. Mental health counselors often work closely with other mental health specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses and school counselors in the provision of psychological services.
