About

A Master of Arts, or Licensure Preparation Program, in School Counseling from George Fox University will prepare you to become a professional school counselor. As such, you will combine the roles of mental health professional and educator in working with children in public or private schools.

You will know how to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental school counseling program aligned with the American School Counseling Association's National Model. You will facilitate students' personal/social, career, and academic development through classroom guidance and both individual and group counseling. As an educational leader you will advocate for all students' holistic development and to that end consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and other community members.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution. A cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or above is required. The undergraduate degree does not have to be in the field of psychology.
