Overview
At Gerontology at University of Louisiana at Monroe all applicants for regular admission to the Master of Arts in Gerontology degree program must meet program admission requirements.
Key Features
Those students entering the program will be required to complete a core curriculum and then may choose one of six areas of specialization:
- Program Administrator - Focuses on training students to become administrators in elder-care agencies (that are not long-term care facilities).
- Aging Studies - Focuses on preparing students for advanced degrees in Gerontology to pursue careers in research, policy development, and higher education.
- Long-term Care Administration- Focuses on training students to become administrators in Assisted Living facilities, Skilled Nursing Care facilities, and other long-term care facilities that provide services to the elderly population.
- Small Business Management- Focuses on training students to launch and/or manage small businesses that provide services to the elderly such as, home health care, day care center, hospice agencies, etc.
- Mental Health- Focuses on training students to be able to address mental health issues among the elderly such as, depression, anxiety, and cognitive disorders.
- Grief Care Management- Focuses on training students to become grief care coordinators and group coordinators/facilitators in agencies such as, hospice care, hospitals, outpatient clinics, funeral homes, etc.
