In the MSc Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance you learn about financial and mathematical analysis of complex risk management and insurance topics. If your mind is on mathematics and finance and if you would like to help companies gain insight into the financial consequences of risks, this programme could be for you.

Overview

In this Master's programme, you choose one of the tracks. You will experience a combination of general courses and track-specific courses.

  • Actuarial Science

    The Actuarial Science track provides you with an excellent grounding for your career as an actuary or risk manager. This track offers ample space for electives that can be selected to meet the entry requirements of the post-Master's Actuarial Practice Cycle. With this post-Master's, you will qualify for membership of the Royal Dutch Actuarial Society.

  • Quantitative Risk Management

    The Quantitative Risk Management track provides an excellent grounding for your career as a risk manager. If you choose this track, you will develop a slightly broader foundation in Actuarial Science and Mathematical Finance, featuring 2 extra required courses.

We are looking for students who have academic potential to keep up with the high level and workload.

One of the criteria on which your application will be assessed is the Grade Point Average (GPA). We do not require a specific minimum GPA for this programme, but we will compare and assess the performance on all selection criteria to make an informed decision regarding placement into the programme.

General requirements

  • If you want to apply for this Master’s programme, you need to hold an academic Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a field that ensures a high level of mathematical proficiency (e.g. Mathematics, Physics or Econometrics), particularly in the fields of calculus, linear algebra, statistics and probability. Additionally, you need to be familiar with the following topics: Linear regression models, Mathematical and empirical finance, Actuarial science, in particular risk theory and elementary life insurance
  • In your application, you have to verify your English proficiency. You can do this by providing English proficiency test scores
  • Verify your GRE scores
