The Department of Chemical Engineering at Prairie View A&M University is one of only six fully accredited Chemical Engineering programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the country.  Our graduates are employed world-wide and our faculty is engaged in research ranging from fundamental to applied technology.


Our faculty members are engaged in a wide array of research projects ranging from reservoir transport modeling and simulation, process safety, pollution and prevention, technology assessment, etc. to very fundamental research in nanotechnology, nuclear radiation,  life sciences, membrane separation, bioprocess, molecular simulation and engineering education- to name a few.

Academic requirements

GPA admission requirements GPA Your GPA, or Grade Point Average, is a number that indicates how well or how high you scored in your courses on average. Usually a GPA scales between 1.0 and 4.0, however different countries and universities can have different grading systems.

English requirements

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The score refers to the total score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading), each subject has a range of 0 - 30.
IELTS admission requirements IELTS The International English Language Test System (IELTS) tests your English-language proficiency on a scale of 1 – 9. The score refers to the combined average score of 4 subjects (writing, listening, speaking, and reading).

General requirements

Admission requirements include: 

  • Complete Apply Texas One application online 
  • Graduate Programs information form 
  • Three references Undergraduate transcripts GMAT or GRE scores        
  • Essay
  • Graduate Status – Minimum GPA of 2.75 and GMAT/GRE scores submitted with application.
  • Provisional Status – GPA between 2.50 and 2.74 and/or official GRE/GMAT test scores have not received, but evidence exists that applicant will meet requirements for graduate acceptance once missing documentation is received.Official test scores must be submitted prior to completing the first semester of enrollment.
