Analyse the world of today and tomorrow by studying the Data Science programme delivered by University of Liège.

About

A rapidly growing proportion of human activities leaves traces in the form of masses of digital data that can be used for better management or better services. These data are produced at a steady rate, accumulated in large volumes and derived from various sources, in numerous forms ranging from the structures used in a database to completely free textual or image formats. The term "big data" refers to these accumulated data and the technologies that allow them to be analysed and used are grouped under the heading of "data science".

This Data Science programme at University of Liège aims to develop the following skills:

  • Mastery of the underlying science (in applied mathematics, artificial intelligence, etc.);
  • Ability to use IT tools;
  • Knowing how to develop a solution in a real-world environment;
  • Ability to conduct a cost-benefit analysis;
  • Understanding of legal and social implications.

Career prospects

In the business world, big data and data science are progressing at a destabilising speed from the concept-to-be-explored stage to being an indispensable tool for developing/improving new products and /or optimising company operations. This enthusiasm is associated with new scientific and technical issues.

It is important, therefore, for companies to be able to recruit specialists specifically trained in the field of data science. The same is true, of course, for the many research laboratories that increasingly depend on expert data scientists to harness their experimental data.
