Our Master of Arts in Teaching Middle School Mathematics is a unique program that prepares individuals to enter a career in teaching mathematics at the middle school level even without extensive prior preparation in mathematics.

The Master of Arts in Teaching Middle School Mathematics, a 39 credit hour program, will serve middle school teachers who already have an appropriate initial license, and who wish to complete a master’s degree program to become eligible to apply for professional licensure.

The program includes mathematics content courses designed specifically for middle school mathematics teachers as well as pedagogy courses and a student teaching practicum. This program leads to Initial license in teaching middle school mathematics (Math 5 – 8). There is also a non-licensure track to serve practicing middle school mathematics teachers who already hold Initial license in middle school mathematics and are seeking to further their education in both mathematics and pedagogy. This track includes advanced pedagogy coursework along with middle school mathematics content courses, and will help teachers satisfy DESE requirements for professional license.
