Standards for teacher certification across disability categories, and spanning birth-age 21, require that special educators obtain specialized knowledge and skills to address a wide range of student needs and opportunities.

The Education - Equity, Inclusion, and Opportunity in Special Education program from Arcadia University not only prepares special educators to work with and across these populations; it also prepares them to understand the complexities of teaching and learning in the 21st century related to considerations of cultural and linguistic diversity and equity, and ensuring inclusive and effective outcomes for students with disabilities, their families, and communities.

General requirements

A graduate application, including personal statements, to be completed online. Use the following application (please complete application via desktop for a better use experience).

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a recommended GPA of 3.0 or better. Passing scores on the Pre-service Academic Performance Assessment Tests in Reading, Writing, and Math can be submitted when the GPA is below 3.0

Students holding a B.A. or B.S. degree in Education who are seeking an initial teaching certification (Instructional I) must submit passing scores from a provider of one of the approved basic skills assessment tests: PAPA, CORE, SAT or ACT. See Testing Requirements for Candidates with a Degree in Education.

One official transcript from each college, university or professional school attended.

Proof of any Pennsylvania teaching certificates, if applying for an add-on certification program.
