What Will I Learn?

You will learn STEM-specific teaching skills and background knowledge leading to initial teacher licensure in Pennsylvania as well as a master's degree. The courses focus on:

STEM-specific educational history and philosophy
Methods in action research
Instructional design and technology
Assessment
Accommodations to include all learners in instruction

Student teaching takes place in the final semester.

What Kinds of Experiences Could I Have?

The first 12 months of this 18-month cohort program can be completed while maintaining full employment. The STEM Education with Certification program at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is delivered in a blended format with much of the content being completed online and periodic face-to-face meetings. You will be assigned a mentor teacher in a regional classroom for field experiences and student teaching.

In addition to the application and transcript(s), STEM Teacher Education applicants must submit:

Program statement: Submit a statement of intent summarizing your motivations and goals for entering the teaching profession.

Two (2) Recommendations: One of the two recommendations must be from your last professional supervisor

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in STEM Education is designed for professionals and recent college graduates who already hold a degree in science, mathematics, or information technology/business discipline and who wish to teach science in either a middle school or high school.
