The Master in Bioinformatics at the University of Bergen engages students in bridging the gap between Informatics and Biology. In this innovative interdisciplinary Master, you will learn to link software tools with biological data. The courses future graduates will follow are in Algorithms, and Biomolecules, and they will be given all the resources to write a final Master’s thesis in Informatics.

About

The group has extensive international cooperation. There is established a centre for bioinformatics (CBU, Computational Biology Unit). It is connected to the bioinformatics group, with common localization.

The Degree

The master's programme leads to the degree Master of Science in Informatics. It is a two year programme (120 ECTS credits).

The Informatics-Bioinformatics programme is offered by the University of Bergen.

Programme Structure

A master's programme in bioinformatics consists of an individual research project (master's thesis) of 60 ECTS credits, and courses or special topics of 60 ECTS credits. Some of the courses are compulsory, while the other courses will be chosen in agreement with the academic supervisor.

Academic Requirements

Admission Requirements

A first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language. Your bachelor's degree must include courses equalling 20 ECTS of mathematics and 60 ECTS of informatics. It is also an advantage to have a course in statistics.
