Overview
Cardiovascular care, world-class research, and a significant healthcare network and workforce have combined in one place with the official opening of the Victorian Heart Hospital (VHH), home to the Monash Victorian Heart Institute (VHI), at Monash University, Clayton, held on Sunday 19 February.
Monash President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Gardner AC joined Victorian Premier the Hon Daniel Andrews, Minister for Health the Hon Mary-Anne Thomas, and Monash Health Chief Executive Professor Andrew Stripp to celebrate the opening of the 200-bed hospital.
This course, offered by Nursing and Midwifery, prepares nurses for leadership roles in management, education, and disaster nursing.
The Nursing education program at Monash University enables development of advanced practice knowledge and leadership in specialist practice including skills to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate health care, as well as the ability to formulate policy for a diverse and multicultural society.
Outcomes
Graduates are employed in a wide range of general and specialist clinical, educational and healthcare environments in senior positions and contribute to the health of individuals, families and communities, in addition to the development of the profession.
Research
Our purpose at the Monash Victorian Heart Institute is simple; to deliver research excellence which turns into measurable change in the rates of heart disease in Australia and beyond.
There are some unmet needs in the cardiovascular disease research space that we believe are preventing Australia from making a real impact for patients. The need is for more personalised, cutting edge novel solutions that work for many individuals, especially the most vulnerable in our society.
These five areas are the Monash Victorian Heart Institute's research themes or ‘grand challenges’, targeting the areas of greatest opportunity in battling the cardiovascular disease crisis.
