The Professional Master Study Programme “Technical Translation” at Riga Technical University provides training of technical translators in such fields as mechanical engineering, logistics, power engineering, material science, information technologies, telecommunications, civil engineering, architecture and town planning, engineering economics and others.

Overview

The concept of the study programme differs from similar translation study programmes in the Humanities. It has an additional emphasis on applied linguistics and covers activities which concern specific practical applications. 

Graduates of the study programme should not only develop competence in dealing with the constantly growing volume of terminology, but also develop subject knowledge in the respective fields. Not only linguists, but also specialists in corresponding fields of technology as well as law, participate in the implementation of the study programme.

Career options

  • Translators are needed in translation bureaus, enterprises (joint ventures in particular), foreign projects in Latvia, state and municipal establishments and other institutions where knowledge of foreign languages, as well as basics of engineering, creative approach to work, presentation and translation skills are necessary.

  • Professional Bachelor Degree in Technical Translation or equivalent Bachelor Degree in technical translation or 2nd level Higher Professional Education in Technical Translation (1,5 years).
  • Bachelor Degree in Translation or English Philology (2 years). Education documents must be accompanied by English translations of all certificates and transcripts along with approval of the documents authenticity;
  • Students applying for master programmes will be asked to record a video interview.
