 The MPEM program is an evening program with face-to-face classes on campus in College Park.  The MPEM program operates on the standard semester-based academic calendar.  The standard time to completion for a full-time student is 4 semesters.


The on-campus version of the Master of Professional Studies in Applied Economics program (MPEM) is a professional master's degree program designed primarilly to enhance the professional development of applied economists. The program is not designed to prepare students for PhD programs in economics. The program prepares students to work as analysts in government agencies, private firms and non-governmental organizations.

The MPEM program's curriculum is identical to that of the MPEC program, but the MPEC program is located off campus in Washington, DC and operates on a quarter-term academic calendar, rather than the traditional semester-based academic calendar.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • The MPEM program offers only fall admission.  Both domestic and international applicants are eligible to apply.  The application deadline for international students is February 28th.  The deadline for domestic applicants is June 15th.
  • The MPEM program's standard academic admissions requirements are: Overall GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4-point scale), grades of at least B in introductory economics courses (micro- and macroeconomics) and a grade of at least B- in introductory calculus.
