General requirements

  • Completed undergraduate courses equivalent to a bachelor's degree in music education and earned state certification/licensure. (State certification/licensure can be from any U.S. state.)
  • A copy of the state certification/licensure.
  • A 300-500 word essay describing your philosophy of music education and how you put that into practice in your teaching position, and your personal and professional objectives to be served by a master's degree from Miami University.
  • Letters of recommendation from three people recommending you for graduate study in music.
  • A video recording (10-15 minutes in length) of a recent rehearsal or class. The primary focus of the recording should be on the teacher rather than on the students, and the recording should be of a single uninterrupted class. Please do not include more than five minutes of warm-up activities.
  • Upload your teaching video via Acceptd.
