The Innovation and Technology master's programme at the University of Tartu connects business, management and IT fields to train specialists who can implement information and communications technology (ICT) solutions in the management processes of enterprises.

The programme aims to educate specialists who can implement ICT solutions to management processes of enterprises and thus help companies grow through more added value created. Qualified students should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in economics, mathematical sciences, technology sciences (including IT).

Career opportunities

After graduation, students have an opportunity to work as innovation or process managers in any company that is already implementing or planning to implement ICT solutions in their processes. Students can also start their own company, especially as a consultation business in implementing ICT solutions or work in the public sector in innovation policy or digitalisation. Student can also continue their studies at the doctoral level.


University of Tartu Institutional Accreditation 2015-2022: The Quality Assessment Council for Higher Education of the Estonian Quality Agency for Higher and Vocational Education decided to accredit the University of Tartu for seven years.

The next accreditation will be conducted in 2022.

Programme Structure

The curriculum consists of:

  • compulsory general subject's module (32 ECTS)
  • two compulsory specialisation modules (innovation management and digital business analysis) (60 ECTS)
  • optional courses (6 ECTS)
  • master's thesis module (22 ECTS)

We welcome students who would not only like to be programmers or system managers but are also interested in management, innovation and entrepreneurship. We can also turn it another way around – students who already are interested in the latter but would like to know more about implementing ICT solutions to those processes.


The programme director is Iuliia Trabskaia, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Tartu.
