About

The Master of Project Management offered by the Southern Cross University is aligned with the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) benchmarking tool – Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). Choose a range of elective units relevant to healthcare, engineering, IT, accounting and business, and design your own study plan to focus on one particular sector or make your mark in an emerging field (IT management in the healthcare sector, for example). Study is 100% online, meaning you can complete your degree in your own time, where it suits you.

Each unit runs for seven weeks, with six study periods per year. To gain your qualification, you need to study all core units and four electives of your choice. You are also required to complete an industry research project that will consolidate your project management skills in risk, control, planning, implementation, evaluation, collaboration and systems analysis.

You may exit early with a Graduate Diploma or a Graduate Certificate. If you have already completed some postgraduate study, you may be eligible to apply for advanced standing, enabling you to pay less and be qualified even sooner.

Career opportunities

Qualified project managers are in high demand, both across the globe and across multiple industries. The Hays Salary Guide 2017 forecasts project management related roles will see future high levels of growth.

As a graduate, you’ll be perfectly placed to follow a range of career trajectories. You’ll possess a rigorous understanding of project management methodologies, be attuned to what’s required to meet project goals, make complex, strategic decision quickly, and know (with confidence) whether a project is likely to succeed or fail.

Almost one third of employers are increasing permanent staff levels in project management roles across sectors (Hays, 2017). Project management is ranked as the second highest skill in demand and the fourth hottest job in the future (Hudson, 2015). According to Job Outlook, by 2019, more than 50,000 roles for specialist managers will become available. The statistics point to a bright future for graduates of the Master of Project Management at Southern Cross University.
