About

This MSc Caring for Children and Young People with Complex Needs from Queen's University Belfast will meet the increasing demand for a postgraduate qualification in Caring for Children and Young People with Complex Health Needs, explicitly focused on interdisciplinary learning and research, delivered flexibly through a blended format of online and face-to-face learning.

The aim of the programme is to provide high-level knowledge and skills training and education to those tasked with working together in caring for children and young people with complex health needs in a hospital and community setting. This Masters degree will be of value to those working with and for children, including health care professionals, allied-health professionals, as well as public officials, NGOs, social workers and support providers.

Career Prospects 

There is increasing demand for postgraduates with high-level skills in interdisciplinary research, participatory research methods and knowledge of caring for children and young people with complex health needs. This degree is ideal for professionals involved in caring for and supporting these children/young people and their families within health and social care services and NGOs such as public officials, social workers and allied health professionals. Graduates of this programme progress into management and leadership roles, or continue into a research or education capacity.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Recommended score: Lower Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of Lower Second Class or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Applicants must have a professional qualification in Nursing, Midwifery or Allied Health and Social Care Services or a related discipline. They shall normally hold a relevant 2.2 Honours degree or above, or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University. 
  • Applicants with a 3rd Class Honours degree (or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University) will be considered on a case-by-case basis, if they can demonstrate appropriate experience with in-service training, acceptable to the School. 
  • Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements should contact the Programme Co-ordinator for advice.
