Designed for students who want to pursue careers in athletics, medicine, human services, or a variety of other fields, the MA in Physical Education - Pedagogy at the University of Northern Iowa offers many opportunities for hands-on learning. 


Students work in laboratories and classrooms with state-of-the-art technology as well as participating in internships and practicums in the UNI Athletic center. University faculty and athletic coaches offer one-on-one mentoring and research opportunities related to education, athletics, and community wellness programs.

Students in the Physical Education - Pedagogy at the University of Northern Iowa emphasis are prepared for careers as physical education teachers working or planning to work in K-12 educational settings. 

Our graduates choose employment as strength and conditioning coaches, upper-level administrators/managers in the fitness industry, or sport psychology consultants, or continue to an advanced degree in Exercise Science, Biomechanics or Sport Psychology.

Guided By Faculty Who Are At The Forefront Of Innovation

  • During your academic career, faculty mentors will provide you multiple opportunities to engage in scholarship experiences. You will be guided by faculty who are at the forefront of innovation in their areas of research and scholarship. 
  • Ultimately, you will complete a culminating project that may be a traditional research study, a creative project, an action research project in public schools, or a capstone project. When you graduate, you will be able to transfer your on-campus scholarship and academic research to enhance the community.
