The Nursing program at Arkansas State University is the basis for professional growth in advanced practice roles and the foundation for doctoral study in nursing.

Available Concentrations:

  • Graduate study in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Concentration is the basis for professional growth in advanced practice roles and the foundation for doctoral study in nursing.
  • The Nurse Administrator Concentration prepares graduates as Nurse Executives, Administrators and Managers. The courses include leadership and management, healthcare law and quality assurance, and budgeting/financial management in the health care setting.
  • In the Nurse Educator Concentration students are prepared in curriculum development, teaching/learning strategies and measurement/evaluation in education.
  • The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner concentration will provide the student with a variety of didactic and clinical experiences.

General requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program of nursing from a regionally accredited college or university
  • GPA of 3.0 (4.0 scale) overall to be considered for acceptance to the Nurse Educator or Nurse Administration option/certificate
  • Overall GPA of 3.25 (4.0 scale) to be considered for acceptance to the Family Nurse Practitioner or the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner option/certificate
  • A current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse. The unencumbered RN license must be active in the state where clinical practice is scheduled or a compact state.
  • Individuals admitted pending NCLEX-RN examination results are required to withdraw  from the program at the end of the first semester if the examination is not passed
  • Provide verification documentation of 1,500 RN practice hours prior to admission to the FNP option
