General requirements

  • Applicants must have completed a four-year teacher education program
  • Applicants who do not meet the requirements of completing a four-year teacher education program may be required to complete the undergraduate courses leading to licensure
  • Applicants must also take the A-State Department of Music entrance examinations in music history, written music theory, and aural music theory
  • Official transcripts for coursework and degree completion verification in music education or an approved equivalent
  • A Letter of Interest (minimum of 500 words, maximum of 750) stating current professional status/goals after obtaining the MME degree and a brief overview of your philosophy of music education
  • Resume or CV
  • Three professional letters of recommendation
  • An example of your teaching (must be an audio-visual recording of an ensemble or group music lesson; minimum of 5 minutes, maximum of 10 minutes)
  • GPA of 3.00 (or 3.25 on the last 60 hours)
