The focus of the course is both academic and applied, and aims to produce graduates who ask questions and know how to set about answering them through critical thinking and reflective practice.

The Public Health and Health Promotion course from London South Bank University continues to be immersed within a social model of health, but has introduced additional aspects of Health Protection.

Central to this course is our commitment to the process of enabling people and communities to increase control over their health and well-being. This approach provides graduates with the tools and knowledge to tackle inequalities in health and work towards combating social exclusion. It draws upon the multi-disciplinary, multi-professional context of public health and engages with the interface between theory and practice.

The course provides an opportunity to examine concepts of Public Health and Health Promotion in a social context, but from a sound foundation of epidemiology and using the core principles of Health Protection. You are also offered the opportunity to see politics and social policy in action with guided visits to Parliament and to explore the public health history of central London on guided Public Health walking tours.

The course develops confident, effective and highly skilled graduates within a range of disciplinary backgrounds. Previous students have had a range of opportunities made available to them on completion of the course, and have extended and developed their public health roles and/or their strategic functions.
