The Master of Music program offered by the Faculty of Arts at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, seeks to promote artistic creation of high quality along with the production of new musical knowledge through research, in order to contribute to the development of the medium Colombian and Latin American music. 


The Master of Music is the final link in a chain of arts education programs beginning with the Artistic Initiation Program (PIA), the Children and Youth Program (NEP) and the School of Musical Studies (CEM).

In addition to a highly qualified faculty, the program benefits from the continued activity of institutional bands like Symphony Javeriana, Javeriana Symphonic Band, the Choir of the School of Musical Studies, and various chamber music ensembles. The master has the services of the Library Alfonso Borrero Cabal SJ which houses one of the most complete library collections of the country in the field of music, and from 2014 enjoy the amenities of a new building for the Faculty of Arts. 

Likewise, the University has the Penthouse Center in spaces whose students PIA, PIJ, and the nascent CEM Master, can develop their projects. In the field of academic production, it has published by the members of the Group of Musical Research, the Xaverian Composers and Musical Cultures in Colombia, and the journal Journal of Music, Visual and Performing Arts collections.

General requirements

  • The aspirtante must have an undergraduate degree in music. In the rare case of an undergraduate degree in another area of the arts or humanities different music, admission will be determined by the Committee of the Master, based on previous musical knowledge of the applicant or his academic career.
