About this Degree
The vision of the Master of Science in Computer Science and Software Engineering (MS-CSSE) program at Auburn University is to offer a unique opportunity for Master’s students to develop cutting-edge and in-depth knowledge of computer science. We cater to Master’s students with an outstanding aptitude and strong analytic skills for software design and development. There are four student learning outcomes (SLO 1-4) defined to implement our MS-CSSE program vision.
- SLO 1: Students will demonstrate proficiency of core knowledge in algorithms, computer architecture, and operating systems.
- SLO 2: Students will be able to implement and test software solutions to problems.
- SLO 3: Students will apply reasoning and technical skills to solve problems in at least one area of research.
- SLO 4: Students will effectively communicate with non-technical and technical audiences during software lifecycles.

General requirements
- GPA of at least 3.0
- GRE general exam combined score (V+Q) > 300, with a verbal score of at least 150, a quantitative score of at least 150, and a written score of at least 3
- TOEFL iBT score of at least 79, with a minimum of 16 on each of four component parts (reading, listening, speaking, writing) or,
- IELTS score of at least 6.5
- Per the MS-CYBE/MS-CSSE/PhD-CSSE description on our department’s website, most applicants should have an undergraduate degree in a closely related area. Appropriate background in the following undergraduate-level areas will be required for MS-CYBE/MS-CSSE/PhD-CSSE students.
