About

The Experiental Film course at Kingston University  offers a range of input from staff in filmmaking, and will enable you to develop a major body of practical work created within the context of a critical understanding of contemporary experimental film theory.

Key features

  • You will receive high levels of contact with staff including regular individual and group tutorials supporting the opportunity to develop a significant body of film work.
  • You will benefit from the input of a wide-range of internationally recognised artists, filmmakers, curators, writers and other practitioners in the field.
  • You will have access to the full suite of recently up-dated moving image resources at the Knights Park campus, including the moving image studio, post-production facilities and high-end film equipment.
  • Through the course you will have the opportunity to visit key film festivals such as CPH:DOX in Copenhagen. You will participate in public screenings of your work, and you will have access to the archives and collections of leading organisations in the field of artists moving image such as LUX.

Where this course will take you

The core skills that you will learn on this programme will prepare you for work within the wide field of artists' moving image and independent film and video. You will also learn transferable practical and critical skills that will prepare you for work in the wider cultural field, and for further study.  

This MA will prepare you for: 

  • Self-employment as an artist, filmmaker or other cultural practitioner.
  • Employment within the field of artists' moving image production, distribution and curating.
  • Further study. The programme has been very successful at placing graduates in highly specific research environments, practice-based and theoretical research programmes.

Academic Requirements

  • Each applicant is expected to provide a showreel or portfolio and statement, developing their reasons for applying to the programme. They are subsequently invited to visit the campus for an informal meeting, or can provide and answer any supplementary questions relative to their application. Please note that there is no formal interview for this course.
