Program Details
With The Master of Arts in Philosophy at Northern Illinois University will develop critical thinking and writing skills while improving your research and leadership skills, preparing you for advanced work as a teacher, in a research field or for further study in a doctoral program.

Students are required to pass a comprehensive examination and to complete 30 semester hours of graduate course work, at least 24 of which must be in philosophy. For students electing to write a thesis, the course work in philosophy will include 6 semester hours of PHIL 699, Thesis.

- Completed a four-year undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution or one with equivalent recognition.
- Achieved a 2.75 grade point average on a 4.00 scale, or the equivalent.
- If you received a three-year degree awarded through the Bologna process in Europe or a three-year Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business Administration awarded in India, you are eligible to apply (provided you are seeking admission to the MBA or OMIS program).
