General requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in education, physical education, biology, or other related major.
  • You must have earned a minimum of a 2.75 GPA from the undergraduate degree-granting institution.
  • Our program does not require you to take the GRE.
  • Statement of purpose of approximately 1,000 words that relates to the program’s purposes and objectives.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • Resume that includes all of your pertinent coaching experience. Have at least five years of coaching experience either as an assistant or head coach in an interscholastic, club, competitive, or structured sport venue by completion of the program.
  • You may be asked to complete a phone interview.
  • Have completed sport-specific certifications (e.g., NFHS, ASEP, USATF).
  • Ball State must receive transcripts for all applicants.
  • Complete our online application.
  • Applications are $60 per program.

Work experience

  • Have at least five years of coaching experience either as an assistant or head coach in an interscholastic, club, competitive, or structured sport venue by completion of the program.
