Clinical Mental Health Counseling, M.A.

The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is a 60-credit 2 ½ year program. The curriculum is composed of 16 courses as well as one practicum and three internship courses (for a total of 700 hours of fieldwork experience). There’s a required weekly Pro-Seminar for first year students, and comprehensive exams after the second year of classes. Upon completion of the program, students will satisfy the educational requirements for licensure. After graduation and 3,000 hours of supervised experience under a limited-permit in an appropriate workplace setting, applicants will be eligible to sit for a state exam in order to become a licensed mental health counselor.


The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is registered with New York State as a licensure qualifying program and is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC).

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
