The Master of Science program in Physics from Wright State University gives the student a broad base of fundamental theory and concentrated study in a particular area of specialization.


This Physics from Wright State University is designed for the student who either desires a career in industry or government, or wants to pursue further graduate study. Each student does experimental or theoretical research in an area of interest and writes a thesis.

The Department of Physics offers two programs of graduate study leading either to the Master of Science or to the Master of Science in Teaching degree. The Master of Science degree program is a research-based master’s program with a required thesis. 


It prepares graduates for employment in private or government laboratories, or for further graduate work. The department participates in PhD programs in Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, and Environmental Sciences.

  • Official copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts. By the time of admission, students should hold a four-year B.S. or B.A. If the degree is not in Physics, the graduate studies committee may impose additional requirements
  • Provide at least two letters of reference
  • Provide a Statement of Purpose why you are considering our M.S. degree program. The personal statement should include:
    • Specific reasons for applying to the Masters of Science Program in Physics at Wright State University,
    • A description of goals for graduate education, i.e. how do you hope a M.S. in Physics from Wright State will further your career, and
    • A list of potential faculty advisors of interest to the applicant.
