Academic programs at the Graduate School of Business & Public Policy reflect the needs of the Armed Services and other government agencies. GSBPP is remarkably versatile. The school has the ability to create new curricula on short notice; to modify current programs to meet the demands of the defense community; to use evolving technology to advance research and scholarship. A multitude of faculty capabilities combined with diverse academic products and a variety of delivery modes allow GSBPP to reach across the nation and across the world.


GSBPP at NPS offers the only MBA program specifically designed to provide a defense-focused, graduate-level education in business. The objectives of the MBA program are to prepare officers for management positions within the Department of Defense by providing them with professional knowledge and skills and to develop broad critical-thinking and analytical abilities that will benefit students in their futures careers. GSBPP provides graduate management education in five primary curricular areas of direct relevance to military educational needs.

Academic Requirements

NPS master’s degree programs are available to officers of all U.S. military services, civilian employees of the government, a limited number of DoD Contractors and selected international students from allied nations. A candidate entering any master's degree program must possess a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution—or in the case of foreign students, a recognized institution. The minimum grade point average is 2.2 on a 4.0 system, of which 75 semester hours/112 quarter hours must be letter-graded. A more detailed listing of the standards for admission can be found in the academic catalog (link). Applications for a master’s degree must include the following:

  • A completed online application form.
  • Certified copies of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts. (Transcripts from NPS are not necessary.)
  • GRE scores taken within the last 5 years for all U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army officers applying to National Security Affairs (NSA) programs.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test of Written English for international applicants whose native language is not English or whose primary language of instruction was not English.
  • Please print the confirmation page displayed upon submission of the completed application. It contains further instructions regarding transcripts. Failure to comply with the instructions will delay the processing of the application.
