The Visual Arts program at the University of Regina allows for intensive individual and group interaction between students and faculty. Students attend weekly seminars focused on art theory and criticism, professional issues, and the development of individual research projects.


The Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at the University of Regina is offered with the following areas of concentration:

  • Extended media including conceptual, video, performance, site-specific, and experimental practices
  • Indigenous perspectives and from multiple gender, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds

Spacious studios provide the ability to engage in the intensive development of individual creative practice.

The MFA program culminates with a solo exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery (or another space approved by the supervisor and the Visual Arts graduate committee) and an exhibition support paper (20-40 pages).

General requirements

Admission to our MFA is competitive. Candidates for the MFA program must hold a BFA degree or equivalent and will submit examples of recent work in the form of CD, DVD or URLs. The work should consist of 20 images (or equivalent) accompanied by a corresponding sheet indicating:

  • Title of each work
  • Media
  • Date
  • Dimensions (if applicable)

Applicants must include a one to two page statement of intention and two letters of reference. Other relevant documentation may be included.
