About

You will develop, through formal education, those skills that are essential to the management of fisheries resources. This multidisciplinary program will provide an understanding of relevant concepts in biology, economics, and business, as well as fisheries policy and planning. While focused primarily on the North Atlantic, the program also deals with major world fisheries as well as quantitative assessment methods. The program is applicable to all facets of the industry, and is a must for individuals involved in the day-to-day business of fisheries resource management locally, nationally, or internationally. The programs are offered through Memorial’s Fisheries and Marine Institute – Canada’s most comprehensive centre for education and training for the ocean industries.The MMS (FRM) program offers both course and major report options, and can be completed in two years of full-time study.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: Upper Second Class
Recommended score: Upper Second Class

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of Upper Second Class or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Bachelor's degree (minimum second class) in an appropriate area of study

Applicants will normally have a demonstrated commitment to the fishery through employment or experience in a sector of the fishery, in a regulatory agency or government department connected to the fisheries, in a non-governmental agency, or through self-employment or relevant professional consulting activities
