The School Counseling program at the Montana State University Billings is designed for persons who wish to become elementary, secondary, or K-12 school counselors. The School Counseling option is designed to meet the licensure requirements established by the Office of Public Instruction for counseling in a school setting in the state of Montana.

Key facts:

  • The intent of the program is to prepare individuals to work with elementary and secondary students (K-12 OPI licensure) in a professional, compassionate manner to promote positive intellectual, behavioral, and emotional change. A School Counseling student at the Montana State University Billings can arrange a plan of study that includes almost entirely online courses.
  • One exception to this are four classes (taken two at a time) that meet in the summer and are taken in a blended/online format. These courses involve coming to campus for one weekend during each of two consecutive summers. Individually designed plans of study allow for flexible completion of the program.
