Painting, with its many traditions, is a medium put to an extraordinary diversity of contemporary uses.. The M.F.A. in Painting at the University of Notre Dame is a three-year program that consists primarily of individual studio work and art history classes which culminate in a thesis exhibition. Graduate students work closely with faculty in a 1:1 ratio and formally interact with other M.F.A. students through exhibitions, studio practice and visiting artist seminars.
The University’s Mission Statement describes Notre Dame as a Catholic academic community of higher education. In Riley Hall and West lake Hall, we seek to build a creative community dedicated to the arts and based on mutual respect for all the members of the community.
