Overview
Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Queen's University provides diverse opportunities for graduate studies in fundamental and applied research in all areas of mechanical engineering. The graduate program offers MASc., M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees and has been recognized for the quality of its academic and research programs. It also focuses on multidisciplinary, collaborative research with faculty in other departments, other faculties and other universities.
Our department has concentrated its research and advanced technical courses in four fields which are recognized by the Engineering Profession as components of Mechanical Engineering.
Students at Mechanical and Materials Engineering from Queen's University will gain knowledge in:
- Biomechanical device development and testing, computer assisted surgery, motion analysis, occupational biomechanics/ergonomics, spine biomechanics and tissue engineering.
- Alternative energy, fuel cells, combustion, computational and experimental fluid dynamics, explosion physics and prevention, gas turbine, heat transfer, low speed fluid flow, solar calorimetry, thermal hazards, thermographics and turbulence.
- Automatic controls, design optimization, manufacturing analysis, MEMS, metal processing, nanosize mechanical devices, noise and vibration control, rapid laminated tooling, robotics, structural and multidisciplinary systems design, system dynamics, and machine condition monitoring.
- Ceramics and polymers, electrochemistry and biomaterials, materials characterization, materials processing and nuclear materials.
