The aim of the Master program in Agriculture, Food and Environment is to educate future leaders at the nexus of agriculture, food, and environmental science and policy, and empower them by providing rigorous training, an ethic of social change, and an intellectual community generating visions and models of alternative systems.

Overview

The Agriculture, Food and Environment (AFE) program within the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy fuses the disciplines of nutrition, agricultural science, environmental studies, and public policy. We offer M.S., Ph.D. and combined degree programs, diverse community service and internship placements, and opportunities to participate in research on sustainable agriculture, local food systems, and consumer behavior related to food and the environment.

Students in the AFE degree program learn to evaluate the ecological, political, economic and social aspects of food production and distribution. Faculty members come from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

General Requirements

  • Application Fee - The application fee of $75 is payable through the online application by credit card or e-check (drawn on a US bank).
  • Academic Records - Applicants will be required to upload a copy of transcripts received from each college or university attended where credit was earned toward an undergraduate, graduate or professional degree.

Funding

  • Undegraduate Students:

Depending on your eligibility, you may borrow a Federal Direct Subsidized Loan in amounts up to $3500 in the first year, $4500 in the second year, and $5500 in each of the third and fourth years.

Tufts Loans are need-based, institutional undergraduate loans which range from $500 to $2,000.

Subsidized Perkins Loans loans cannot exceed $4,000 per year for undergraduate study, and $20,000 for all years of undergraduate study.

  • Graduate Students:

This federal loan is available to students who are U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking or certificate program. Unsubsidized means that all interest charges for this loan are your responsibility.
