About

The Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies (MCHS) MA at Florida State University is designed for both those who wish to study museum practice and cultural heritage as an academic subject and those who seek careers in museums or other cultural heritage agencies.

Overview

The goal of Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies at Florida State University is to provide students with the research and analytical skills required of museum professionals as well as a solid academic foundation for advanced study in the history of art.

Learning outcomes

The program combines Art History coursework and hands-on museum experience. Interdisciplinary courses explore the various ways in which people represent, value and use the past, and how this past is taught, disseminated and publicly debated. Extended internships provide professional experience in real world situations.

We work closely with FSU’s Museum of Fine Arts and the Ringling Museum of Art, other local and regional art institutions, and government agencies such as the Southeastern Archaeological Center, the Bureau of Archaeological Research, the Museum of Florida History, and the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation.
