The Sociology program requirements at Boston University include coursework and an MA thesis that makes an original contribution to sociological knowledge. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline; a bachelor’s degree in sociology is preferable but not required.
In addition to coursework, candidates must write a thesis on a project of original research, resulting in a paper that demonstrates the student’s skills in sociological research and analysis. The thesis shall be written with the consent of an advisor and under the supervision of a master’s thesis committee consisting of two members, one of whom must be the advisor.
