The Latin American Studies program from Georgetown University is tailored to the needs of people contemplating further graduate-level work in the humanities or social sciences, as well as those wishing to pursue non-academic careers. Students may participate in graduate summer programs that CLAS offers in Santiago, Chile; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Quito, Ecuador.
In addition, there is a special five-year cooperative degree program that allows students from select U.S. colleges and universities who have majored in Latin American Studies at the undergraduate level to complete the M.A. in Latin American Studies at Georgetown in one year.
A joint program leading to a master’s degree and a Doctor of Law (J.D.) degree is also now available. This joint program offers master's level study in the field of Latin American Studies from Georgetown's Graduate School and the School of Foreign Service integrated with a program of legal studies offered by the Georgetown Law Center. The joint program, offering the two degrees, can be completed in four years. Students must begin the master's/J.D. program in the fall semester only.
