About

Our Germanic Studies program from University of Maryland offers each student the opportunity to shape an individualized course of study, working closely with faculty whose expertise includes German literature and culture from the 18th through 21st centuries, film studies, gender studies, and Scandinavian studies.

Overview

In addition to seminars in Germanic Studies at University of Maryland, students have the option to enroll in interdisciplinary graduate seminars in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures focusing on topics such as postcolonial studies, transnational theory, and global cinema. Students may also pursue interdisciplinary coursework in related fields including Comparative Literature, Digital Humanities, English, and Women’s Studies.

All students receive teacher training and have the opportunity to teach a range of undergraduate classes, including summer classes. Located in the vibrant Washington, D.C. metro area, the University of Maryland enjoys proximity to many cultural and research institutions, including the Goethe Institut, German Historical Institute, National Archives, and the National Gallery of Art.
