The Biology programme offered by Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz comprises, among others, the fields of anthropology (human biology), botany, genetics, microbiology, molecular biophysics, and zoology. Biological research contributes to the preservation of the environment and to shaping our future living conditions. From an observational and descriptive science in past decades, biology has developed more and more into an experimental discipline that uses a variety of methods and instruments, including from sister sciences such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Research methods in molecular biology are also applied in medicine and biotechnology.
The accreditation of study programmes for Bachelor and Master Degrees constitutes as a precondition for the granting of state approval.
