  • In addition to expertise in German literature, the faculty of the German Studies program of the University of Colorado at Boulder have interdisciplinary strengths, including comparative literature, philosophy, social and political theory, film, cultural studies, intellectual history, art history, gender studies, Jewish studies and translation.
  • To get a better idea of the department’s areas of specialization, prospective students of the are encouraged to consult the list of recent graduate seminars and the profiles of the graduate faculty and expanded graduate faculty. The faculty works closely with students to design their own course of study.

  • Students applying to the MA degree are expected to have a BA or equivalent in German or BA-level proficiency in German with a BA in a related field, and should have a general knowledge of the German-speaking countries' literature, history and culture
  • Application fee
  • Personal Statement (1-2 pages)
  • Transcripts (unofficial transcripts should be uploaded to the online application.  This includes community colleges, summer sessions, study abroad programs, and extension programs).
  • Three letters of recommendation (You will enter your recommenders’ contact information into the online application system. Once you submit your application, emails will go out to your recommenders asking them to upload a letter of recommendation to your application.)
