About

The master of science (MSc) program in epidemiology is a thesis-based degree program that aims to provide students with the skills required to conceptualize, design, conduct, analyze and interpret observational (descriptive and analytic) and experimental studies that are used to identify risk, prognostic factors and course of communicable and non-communicable diseases; and to evaluate strategies designed to promote health, prevent disease and provide health care.

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Before you submit an online application, please note the minimum admission requirements for consideration into our programs. You must meet these requirements for your application to be considered:

  • Previous degree - A baccalaureate degree, or its academic equivalent, from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta
  • Grade Point Average (GPA) -  A GPA of at least 3.0 on most 4-point scales, or B on most letter grading systems, based on your most recent two years or last 60 credits of full-time study (or equivalent) is required.
