The Materials Science and Engineering - Materials Engineering Option is an interdisciplinary program from New Jersey Institute of Technology that applies the principles of basic sciences and engineering to understanding the behavior of materials, as well as development and applications.

Overview

Materials Science and Engineering is the study of the mechanical, physical, and chemical properties of engineering materials, such as metals, ceramics, polymers, and biomaterials.

NJIT’s MS in Materials Science and Engineering curriculum develops skills in problem solving, engineering analysis and design.

Learning Outcomes

While students in the Materials Science and Engineering - Materials Engineering Option M.S. program at New Jersey Institute of Technology learn a wide range of skills and knowledge, we specifically aim for our students to meet the learn the following:

  • An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  • An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
