George Mason University offers M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology -Applied Developmental Psychology (ADP). The program focuses on development during childhood and provides basic knowledge about typical and atypical development, skills for assessing developmental level and conducting research, and techniques for planning and evaluating programs that foster optimal development.

Opportunities exist for mentored research, comprehensive training in advanced statistical analysis, practica at local sites, training and experience in teaching, and applied work under faculty supervision at community sites

The M. A. in Psychology -Applied Developmental Psychology from George Mason University requires 30 hours of graduate credit, including either a practicum or thesis. The program prepares students for employment in government and private agencies that deal with educational and health programs for children, agencies that conduct research on child welfare and human development, enrichment programs for infants and preschoolers, parent education, the media, daycare and after school child care programs, etc. 

It also accepts students who wish to prepare for doctoral work in Developmental, Clinical, Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology. This program does not provide training in clinical skills.

This activity takes three years, and involves faculty, staff, and students from across the institution. The process consists of two major components: the compliance certification, a comprehensive review of the university’s administration, faculty, programs, and a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that seeks to develop and enhance the university’s offerings in some particular way. George Mason University most recently chose to focus expanding undergraduate involvement in research in its Students as Scholars initiative.The university’s accreditation was most recently reaffirmed in December, 2011, and extends until 2021. However, the university will undergo a more focused mid-point review in 2017.
