Overview

Entomology is the branch of science concerned with the study of insects and related organisms. It involves studies of their biology, structure, identification, economic significance, and population management. The major emphasis of the curriculum is understanding insect biology and applying that knowledge in an integrated approach to insect-pest management.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Applicants for graduate degrees must meet all requirements for admission to the Graduate School. Applicants without a master’s degree will be accepted into the departmental program based on grade-point average (GPA), letters of recommendation, résumé and an adviser in the student’s area of interest. Applicants must present Graduate Record Examination scores for the verbal, quantitative, and writing tests. To be accepted for the Master of Science degree, an undergraduate background in physical and biological sciences is essential. An undergraduate major in entomology is not required. A cumulative GPA of 3.00 is highly desirable.
