The International Studies in Education programme at University of Iceland responds to the development of globalisation, migration, the development of a multicultural society in Iceland amongst other things. 

Overview

The International Studies in Education programme at University of Iceland focuses on education in the context of globalisation and the development of multicultural societies, sustainable development and on development studies and education in developing countries. 

It is envisaged that more international schools and school divisions will be founded in Iceland in the coming years. 

These will be established to meet the needs of:

  • immigrant children
  • bilingual children
  • children of returning diplomats
  • children whose parents work for international companies.

General requirements

  • The program requirements include methodology  (20 ECTS), a course in theories in educational studies (including sociology and philosophy of education) (10 ECTS) elective courses in a specialist area (30-50 ECTS) and an MA-thesis (40 or 60 ECTS). All teaching is in English
  • the programme requires the applicant to have completed an undergraduate degree (B.Ed., BA or BS) with a first class grade (7.25).
