Description
Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (The Network) manages the health care of more than 30,000 patients in custody within secure settings across NSW. We provide 800,000 occasions of service to adults and young people in contact with the forensic mental health and criminal justice systems. Our teams provide multidisciplinary services including primary care, mental health, drug and alcohol, population health, women’s health, midwifery care, oral health, Aboriginal health, youth health, and a range of allied health services.
The primary care nurse workforce provides first line primary care, referring patients for further review by sessional visiting medical officers or specialty nurses working in drug and alcohol, mental health, population health, women’s health and midwifery streams. Unlike the specialty nursing career pathway there has not been an academic pathway for our primary care nurses to formally specialise in the specialty of Custodial Health. With the commencement of the Graduate Certificate and Master of Custodial Health this will now provide a career pathway for our nurses who wish to specialise in Custodial Health. The provision of this scholarship underscores the Network’s commitment to the continuing education of our staff.
