The Jagiellonian University is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. It was founded on 12 May 1364 by the Polish king Casimir the Great. The Jubilee year 2014 marked the 650th anniversary of this remarkable event.

Description

The Rector’s Scholarship is designed to motivate students and granted at a request.

Benefits

The scholarship amount is around PLN 1,000 per month (9 months) and paid monthly by wire transfer to the student’s bank account.

In further years the scholarship is granted to 10% of the best students, and the ranking is prepared based on the sum of points for average grade, scientific and artistic achievements, and excellent results in sports.

In the case of 1st-year students of the second-cycle studies, the scholarship is granted based on the sum of points for an average grade, scientific and artistic achievements, and excellent results in sports. The average grade from the last year of first-cycle studies (of which the diploma was a basis for admission to the second-cycle studies) is considered.

Eligibility

It is granted to 1st-year students of the first-, or long-cycle studies in the year of matriculation examination, who are:

  • winners of the international Olympiad or the winners or finalists of the Olympiad of the central degree, described in the regulations on the educational system;
  • medalists of a sports competition for the title of champion of Poland in a sport referred to in those provisions regarding the sport.

The Rector’s Scholarship is granted to each student who fulfills the conditions above, who applied for the scholarship – the number of scholarships is limited. It is possible to combine this scholarship with a scholarship from the Rector's Scholarship Fund for Olympians.

A student may receive each scholarship for one field of study at the same time. In case of awarding a particular scholarship for more than one field of study, a student is obliged to choose one field of study.

Students apply for a scholarship in USOSweb (Common section tab > Applications), print, and deliver to the University within a specified time limit in person or by the post office. More information is available in the Financial aid tab > Application process.

The scholarships are not taxed, and there is no need to declare them in an annual tax return in Poland.
